Relax by the beach or enjoy your
vacation to the Big Island shopping close to the Kona Condo
Enjoy a day by the beach or by one of
the 2 pools. At the Alii Drive entrance to the Casa
there are several small businesses: a convenience store
with a small deli, a beauty shop, a wonderful florist, a
swim suit shop, and a real estate office. The Casa also
provides a self-service laundry room in the complex for
guests.
If you have any other questions about
the condo or about the Big Island, please feel free to
ask! We think the Big Island is a great place with
endless amounts of interesting things to see and do
(terrific snorkeling and golf courses; great
restaurants, Volcano National Park; Hilo; the Kohala
Coast, and Waimea). Be sure to pick up a couple of the
booklets about the island when you are waiting for you
luggage at the Kona airport. The "100 Things To Do On
The Big Island" is great, as are the smaller monthly
guides.
Snorkeling
Snorkeling is one of the
most beautiful experiences.
Some of the best diving and
snorkeling in the world happens off the coasts. Whether
you have spent or are taking the plunge for the first time
there are a lot of things to know about the where, when
and how of enjoying your time under the sea.
Dolphin Quest
Dolphin Quest first opened at the
spectacular Hilton Waikoloa Village on Hawaii’s Big Island
in 1988. This creation of a model habitat for marine
mammals was the realization of a place where dolphins
live, play and reproduce free from the threats they face
in the wild. Dolphin Quest’s Learning Center Lagoon was
the first of its kind and inspired a new generation of
large, natural habitats for marine mammals. It was here
that Dolphin Quest’s interactive programs first captured
the hearts and minds of adults and children alike.
Lava watching and Akaka falls
Because the eruptions of Hawai'ian
volcanoes are gentler than those of most other volcanoes
around the world, the edges of active vents are frequently
accessible, allowing people to come pay their respects to
Pele. The early Hawai'ians revered her and made offerings
to placate her wrath. Missionaries William Ellis and Asa
Thurston visited Kilauea's boiling lake of lava in 1823,
the first Westerners to do so. Pele's fiery lake was
described in magazines of the day, and adventuresome
travelers came to see it firsthand. Mark Twain, on seeing
Kilauea in 1866, enthusiastically wrote, "Here was room
for the imagination to work!"
The Casa de Emdeko is
located on Alii Drive, in Kailua-Kona on the "Big
Island" of Hawaii. The "Casa", as it is referred to,
is a beautiful condominium complex on the ocean,
within walking distance of the downtown "Kona" area.
